Fluent

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 October 2026 · Applies to the Fluent apps for Android (com.fluent.neuralmesh), macOS (com.fluent.neuralmesh.mac) and, when released, iPhone/iPad (com.fluent.neuralmesh.ios), and to this website

The short version.

Fluent has no accounts, no servers, no analytics and no advertising. Your profile, scores, streaks and practice history are stored only on your device and are removed when you delete the app's data.

The one thing that may leave your device is the audio you record while practising, because Fluent uses your device's built-in speech recognition (Apple's on Mac, iPhone and iPad; your Android device's recognition service on Android) to turn it into text. Section 4 explains this for each platform.

1. Who we are

Fluent ("the app") is published by Neuralmesh Private Limited ("we", "us"). You can reach us at taqnikin@gmail.com. This policy describes how the app handles information. It applies to the apps and this website only, not to third-party services you separately use on your device.

2. We do not collect anything

Fluent contains no code that sends your practice data to us or anyone else. The app has no sign-up, no user accounts, no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking of any kind. We operate no servers that receive data from the app and hold no database of users. We do not sell, rent or share personal information because we never receive any.

3. What the app stores on your device

On a Mac, Fluent keeps one file, progress.json, in its sandbox container (~/Library/Containers/com.fluent.neuralmesh.mac/Data/Library/Application Support/Fluent/). On iPhone and iPad it is kept in the app's own storage. On Android, Fluent keeps a local database in the app's private storage on your phone. In each case it contains:

WhatExamplesWhy
Profile you enterOptional display name, learning goals, level, daily practice target, theme, reminder timeTo personalise exercises and greet you
Practice transcriptsThe text of what you said, as transcribed by your device's speech serviceTo compare your speech with the target text and show what was heard
Scores and speech metricsOverall, fluency, pronunciation and accuracy scores; words per minute; pause and filler counts; duration and timestampTo produce feedback and track progress
Progress and gamificationXP, streak, hearts, completed lessons, weak words, review schedule, checkpoint resultsTo keep your place in the learning path

None of this is transmitted anywhere by the app. The display name can be anything you like, and the app never asks for your email address, phone number, date of birth or location.

Audio recordings are not kept

Fluent does not write your recordings to a file or store audio in its data. Audio exists only momentarily while it is transcribed, then it is discarded. Only the resulting text is saved.

4. Microphone and speech recognition

The microphone is used only while you are doing a speaking exercise and have started a recording. It is not used in the background. On Apple platforms Fluent asks for the Microphone and Speech Recognition permissions; on Android it asks only for Microphone.

Android

Specific to Android: Fluent requests one permission, the microphone, and has no internet permission, so the app itself cannot send anything anywhere. It never writes your voice to a file: each recording is discarded the moment it becomes text. Speech-to-text is handled by your Android device's built-in recognition service (Google's on most phones), which decides whether to process your voice on-device or over the network. Once the device's English offline speech pack is installed, Fluent works with no internet connection, including in airplane mode. If the offline pack is not installed and you have a connection, that service may send your audio to its own servers under its own privacy policy, not ours. Fluent's Settings screen shows what your device supports.

Mac, iPhone and iPad

Specific to Apple platforms: Fluent does not transcribe speech itself. It uses Apple's Speech framework. When your device supports on-device recognition for English, Fluent requests that the audio be processed entirely on the device. If it does not, macOS or iOS may send the audio to Apple's servers to be transcribed, and Apple's privacy terms then apply to that audio. This processing is performed by the operating system, outside our control, and we receive neither the audio nor a copy of it.

To keep recognition on your Mac, make sure on-device English dictation/recognition is available in System Settings → Keyboard → Dictation and use Siri & Dictation language settings that match the language you practise. Apple's policy is available at apple.com/legal/privacy. You can revoke access at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security. You can also use Fluent without the microphone by typing your answer; typed answers cannot measure pauses or pronunciation.

Text-to-speech

When the app reads a phrase aloud it passes that exercise text (nothing about you) to your device's text-to-speech engine, which is part of your system.

5. Permissions the app requests

PermissionPurposeOptional?
Microphone (all platforms)Record your voice during speaking exercisesRequired for speaking on Android; on Apple platforms you can type answers instead
Speech Recognition (Apple platforms)Convert your recording into text so it can be scoredYes. You can type answers instead
Notifications (Apple platforms)Show a daily practice reminder that you turn on in SettingsYes. Off by default

Fluent does not request access to your contacts, location, camera or photos. The Android app requests no permission other than the microphone, and no internet access. On Apple platforms the app only accesses a file you choose in the Save/Open panel when you export or import a backup.

In-app purchase (Fluent Pro, Apple platforms only)

If you buy Fluent Pro, the payment is processed by Apple through the App Store under Apple's privacy policy. Fluent never sees your name, Apple ID, card or billing details. The app only asks Apple's StoreKit framework, on your device, whether this Apple ID owns Fluent Pro, and remembers the answer locally so Pro works offline. Apple provides developers with aggregated, de-identified sales reports; these do not identify you to us. The Android app has no in-app purchases.

6. Retention and deletion

Your data stays on your device until you remove it. You are in control:

Backups

On Apple platforms you can save your progress to a backup file from Settings → Your data (a Fluent Pro feature in the App Store versions). The file is written only where you choose and contains the same information as described in Section 3. It is not encrypted, so store it somewhere you trust. If you use Time Machine, iCloud or Android device backup, the app's data may be included in those system backups under Apple's or Google's terms.

7. Children

Fluent is a general-audience learning tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because it collects no personal information at all. Because the microphone and speech recognition are used, a parent or guardian may wish to supervise use. Practice history is stored on the device, so anyone with access to the unlocked device can read it.

8. Your rights

Since we do not receive or hold your data, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our side. All of your data is in your possession on your device and you can view, export or delete it at any time as described above. If you have questions about privacy, email us at taqnikin@gmail.com.

9. Security

Your practice data lives in the app's private storage, protected by your device's normal permissions. Its security depends mainly on your device: use a strong screen lock or login password, enable device encryption (FileVault on Mac), and keep the system up to date.

10. This website

This website is static. It sets no cookies and uses no analytics. Fonts and the 3D scene are served from this site, with no third-party scripts. The Google Play badge is drawn by this site; the link opens Google Play, whose own privacy policy then applies. If you use the contact form, it simply opens your email app with a message addressed to us. We only receive what you choose to send.

11. Changes to this policy

If our practices change, we will update this page and its "Last updated" date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
